From “I’m Not Sure…” to Champion

When Academic Dean Dr. Kristy Alvarez invited Liz to compete in the FPD Middle School Spelling Bee, Liz admitted she struggled with stage fright and felt more confident spelling on paper than aloud. With gentle encouragement — and after talking with her parents — she took a brave step and agreed to compete.  OptimizedImage,,,Optimized

That step led her all the way to the top.  Liz won the entire schoolwide competition.

But the day’s biggest surprise wasn’t just the winning word — it was the support in the room. Middle schoolers cheered loudly, encouraged every contestant, and wrapped Liz in hugs after her victory. It was a beautiful picture of the Christ-centered community that defines FPD.

Her humility, calm confidence, and humor made the moment unforgettable.

A Victory Bigger Than Words

Liz’s journey reminds us what can happen when a student is encouraged to step outside their comfort zone and when a whole school stands behind them.
